Careful or frivolous?Part II

Proverbs 31:16

She considereth a field, and buyeth it; with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard.

We talked yesterday about how the Bible tells us to look well into our household finances. And today we are exploring how the Proverbs 31 woman makes her decisions regarding finances.

This verse says, “She considereth a field…” . To me, this verse calls wives to make careful considerations of their financial decisions. The Proverbs 31 woman probably asked herself a number of questions before she purchased the field.

  • How much money will the field cost? Do we have that kind of money for a long term investment?
  • What will the best use of the field be?
  • Do I have enough time to invest in the vineyard?
  • Can my family do without the money during the time it takes to fully cultivate the vineyard?
  • Will the vineyard produce for my family and have extra over to sell?

The Proverbs 31 woman was careful to consider how this purchase would affect the welfare of her family, including herself. And she made sure that the field would have a good purpose.

I am hoping that you learned as I have just learned that wives are to look well into finances and make careful decisions regarding them.

Let us analyze our own decision making when it comes to purchasing.  Is there an aspect that you feel that you have neglected?  Do you make careful considerations?

Here’s an illustration. Maybe you are thinking about purchasing a computer. First, you would think about the cost and if you have the money to cover the cost. You may find out that there are added extra expenses like the printer and cable wiring and so forth.

Then you may look into the kinds of computers out there and which one would best suit your need and the needs of your family. A number of things could drive your decision on which brand to purchase. You know that you have to buy one that will support your child’s efforts in college as well as your hobby in photography. There are tons of information that you will consider that will best fit your budget and meet your need.

Versus. I want a computer because my friend has one and I want the same one she has because my friend has a neat computer.

Friend, I believe the Bible tells us as wives to make good decisions with careful considerations on how our family may be affected and that will lead to the improvement of the welfare of the family.
